GHOST TRAIN

I can see my face in the window
Rushin' past, but time moving so slow

I've been riding the ghost train
Rising up from the ground
riding the ghost train

Porter laughs, his mind is a tangle
Time gone on guitars that jangle

I've been riding the ghost train
Rising up from the ground
riding the ghost train

Porter laughs, and he smiles
laughs, and he smiles

I've been riding the ghost train
Rising up from the ground
riding the ghost train

I can see her face like the sky
Can't stop the train, let it roll by

I've been riding the ghost train
Rising up from the ground
riding the ghost train

BELLADONNA

Night falls upson the ocean
Quake looms behind
And the millions that are on the freeways
Don't have a clue of what they'll soon find
They're calling on their cell phones
And pray to ease their minds

The night, the flash
of those who win or stumble
in belladonna dreams and nightmares

Living in a world of beauty
All they saw was fear
So they went looking for a superhero
To lead them far above the crooked fold
Wasn't quite what they expected
But they got what they deserved

The night the flash
of those who win, or stumble
in belladonna dreams and nightmares

Emotion is not wisdom
The cure, it is not poison

Took me from a world of winter
Feeling warm and free
But now I left you for the fall of winter
There's always more upon the crowded shore
And when your days are numbered
There's new worlds to explore

IN THE BASEMENT

Why can't I leave you behind
In the basement inside my mind

Another time I can't forget
In that barroom, after my last set
Saw your white dress and your dark sad eyes
I made you smile, you stayed a while

Took you home to my street
To my basement room between the sheets
Your naked body did me well
You were so beautiful, saved me from hell

Why can't I leave you behind
In the basement inside my mind

Looking now at my empty bed
I turned the mattress, and cleared my head
Once called the number that you left for me
"Told you before, she ain't here no more!"
But the scenes in my mind are never far behind
In the basement, between the sheets
Your naked body cast a spell
You were so beautiful, saved me from hell

Why can't I leave you behind
In the basement inside my mind

I DON'T KNOW

Sittin' thinkin' nothin' it's a Saturday night
Just rollin' down my windows but there's no one in sight
But you must be someone I knew before

Now who stuck my memory with the things of the past
I had a lot of good things, but nothing seemed to last
But you must be someone I knew before

Multi-colored rangers standing guard in my hall
While the diplomats and soldiers draw cartoons on my wall
But you must be someone I knew before

Carson and Perry do the jerk with Sullivan
They don't give a shit about the money they spend
But you must be someone I knew before

I don't know

DEATH WISH

Send a postcard from the great beyond
With a picture of the pearly gates
Tell me who you've met or seen
How it feels to die the dream
And I'll tell you how it feels - alive
how it feels - alive

Tell me, is there a god up there?
White beard and that golden throne
Trapped inside an old cliche
What the people make you say
In the days while we're here - alive
while we're here - alive

The TV movie scripts come flyin' in
You oughta see who's gonna play your wife
Wasn't pretty how you checked out
Left us fucked up and left out
In the days while we're here - alive
while we're here - alive
while we're here - alive

FLAME TURNS TO BLUE

Didn't find the gold - I didn't see the light
they promised me the world - it all was a lie
but the life that I lead and I love I just can't leave behind

I needed you - but you were a million miles away
On some distant star - never hearing a word that I say

But I know that you love me for the things you do
stayed up all night wondering if it was true
but it's back to the waiting again 'til the flame turns to blue

the sky turned so red - like a fireball alive in the night
i gave you my heart - and the dark it soon changed to the light

now the door that is closed will be open again
the nemesis comes back to make me a friend
but i'm wondering right now what to do til your flame turns to blue

with the worn out pages with the words that you said
don't wanna hold on forever to something that's dead
but every good thing will renew when your flame turns to blue

TORNADO

Black hell whirls from a murky sky
just you and I
We were driving fast far away from home
We had the urge to be alone

You wanted to hold me 'til I died
I just wanted to feel you deep inside
Under a yellow sky, we laid down
and you kissed me so deep when we hit the ground

Tornado - comin' from behind
Tornado - take what's yours and mine

Mile high darkness and an awful fear
replaced the stillness in the air
So we held each other and we made a plan
threw on our clothes and away we ran

through the cornfields blowing everywhere
and it got cold but we didn't care
it came straight on, much too insane
hit the ditch to a sound like a big freight train

See the sky
look up and feel
the black wind roar
you feel the traces of those before
not old enough to die

That big old cloud was coming on
it picked up a car and ripped through a barn
We watched paralyzed as it went back up
Straight over our heads like it was giving up
The next thing we knew the sirens came
Over the fields we could hear the screams
"You kids got lucky" were the words that he said
and we hugged and ran away

AWAY FROM THE GREAT COLD CITY

I had that dream again
Walking down a darkened field
Headin' away from the great cold city
You were far away, in love with someone you knew long ago
Car broke down, twenty below and I'm walkin' slow to the other side
Stopped and wiped off my shirt
My feet in broken glass and dirt
and I cried and cried and cried - glad nobody heard

Broken railroad ties, and the headlights rush straight ahead
Never asking anything but to be understood
So alone, like a soldier dying suddenly
Like a supernatural plague on my innocence

Shake my fiath, shake my trust in my own love
Burn inside, burn and born again on broken wheels
To the road, when the sunrise is just hours away
The chrome it shines, and the hills and trees are coming clear
Sun arise sleeping now warm and back again
I knew it would my faith must've been behind me

Catching up like a runner or a man trying to escape
The emptiness when you tell yourself you're all alone
Walk away, I couldn't return the love you had for me
But I loved you then and I love you now, just like the sun

HOME

Had a dream last Sunday
Walking to the place my ancestors had tread upon the ground
Past the old black river
through the jagged trail where arrowheads lie still without a sound

no one can take it from me
no one can take it from you

Hear the thunder smashing
Cross the railroad tracks where the train it creaks and makes a dying sound
The poison ivy's warning
mosquito summers and cold steel covered snow upon the ground

no one can take it from me
no one can take it from you

I need no war to take it
rain on the tombstone and the shotgun flowers floating on the foam
I need no flag to claim it
my love she sleeps tonight and I finally realized this is my home
this is my home
this is my home

FLYING OUT OF LONDON IN THE RAIN

The airport's like a ghost
Got a big wing in the sky
Time to walk away from traveling
Can't feel the years go by

I don't really care what day it is
cos to me it's all the same
stuff my soul in the overhead
flying out of London in the rain

The crowds they bring a smile
Recognition in the street
Promoter wants to do another tour
And the world is at your feet

But I don't really care what day it is
cos to me it's all the same
walk away into arms I love
flying out of London in the rain

WEEKENDLAND

Monday came too early for my health
Tuesday didn't wanna rise from bed
Wednesday was a losing thing
But Thursday I gave you a ring
Take my money, and take my hand
Frinday let me start it all again
Saturday, into town
With guitar bands turning way up loud

I've got the keys right in my hand
Gotta get to weekendland
I gotta make you understand
Takin' off to that weekendland, that weekendland

The working week is not for me
Make more money, I'll be bustin' free
Living like a wage slave now
But there'll be a new way out somehow
